Costa Rica & Belize by private plane
Volcanos, turtles, textiles and tattoos; Costa Rica and Belize have an incredible colourful variety of interests to attract: a private plane avoids tiresome roads and gives easy access to the remote jungle lodges, turtle beaches and delightful towns with their charming colonial archcitecture.
Flying into Tortuguero the volcanos of Costa Rica poked through the morning clouds and we swept down to the dirt strip a short boat ride from the delightful small lodge. Days passed comfortably with kayaking through the canal network surrounded by lush tropical vegetation teeming with birdlife before a short hop took us to the river for rafting to our jungle lodge. With excellent food, romantic candle-lit accommodation and exciting zip lining it was one of the most delightful places to stay. On to the Mayan site of Tikal before staying in a pretty hacienda in Antiqua, Guatemala ‘s old capital, with a final few days at Lake Atitilan with superb walking and fascinating colourul markets nearby.
